The Position

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and Founder, you will spearhead dynamic engineering teams dedicated to creating groundbreaking software solutions that elevate our product offerings. This role is tailored for a visionary leader with a solid track record in nurturing and directing multifaceted engineering teams within the security software domain, adept at managing intricate technology stacks and strategically optimizing budget allocations across our global footprint. What You Will Be Doing

  • Cultivate a vibrant R&D culture that inspires innovation, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Implement performance-driven initiatives across all offices to drive a commitment to achieving goals, leading to increased productivity.
  • Ensure consistency in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) leading to higher quality software, improved maintainability & scalability, better team collaboration, minimizing risks and reducing development costs and time.
  • Manage and optimize a growing R&D budget to maximize ROI and align with OPSWAT business goals.
  • Streamline the R&D group for heightened effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Uphold the highest standards of cybersecurity across all products.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Leaders and Support teams to drive success.
  • Establish and evaluate performance metrics to optimize engineering efficiency and budget management across global teams, ensuring high-quality solutions through informed resource allocation, continuous process enhancement, and a focus on critical engineering KPIs such as velocity, time estimates, code quality, and coverage.
  • Assess the feasibility of new implementations, driving proof-of-concept projects to validate ideas and technologies.
  • Maintain oversight on software development life cycle (SDLC) KPIs, including the secure usage of third-party components, managing vulnerabilities, addressing out-of-date and end-of-life components, and ensuring proper licensing compliance, including open-source components.
  • Spearhead innovation initiatives, steering product technology to establish a leading position in the security software market, managing a complex technology stack including cloud-native solutions (AWS, Azure), on-premises software, server-side or endpoint-side development, and hardware integration.
  • Collaborate with the Sales, Customer Success, and other GTM teams to gather insights into customer needs and preferences, ensuring that product development is customer centric.
  • Collaborate with the Product Management team to conceptualize, lead, and execute new product features that align with market demands and business objectives.
  • Mitigate risks and balance technical debt with business requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in quality assurance processes, with a focus on enterprise-level software certifications such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and other critical industry certifications.
  • Lead disaster recovery efforts, handling emergent situations such as security incidents, and coordinating responses to unexpected global events, ensuring the engineering team acts with agility to protect the company’s interests.

What We Need From You

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Over 15 years of experience leading enterprise security software development teams with a proven track record of successful product delivery.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, assess engineering efficiency, and balance team skills and costs across locations.
  • Deep expertise in cloud-native platforms (AWS, Azure), on-premise software, and hardware integration.
  • Strong understanding of engineering KPIs such as velocity, code quality, and coverage.
  • Skilled in managing third-party components, vulnerabilities, and ensuring compliance with software licenses.
  • Experience with disaster recovery, security incident management, and agile response to global events.
  • Extensive knowledge of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and quality assurance processes.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English, along with strong organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Background in developing cross-platform software products and cloud-delivered services.
