The Position
OPSWAT is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to join our MetaDefender NDR team. In this role, you will lead our engineering team in maintaining and enhancing our existing Network Detection and Response (NDR) platform while spearheading the development of our next-generation platform. This role combines strategic leadership, team management, and hands-on technical expertise in building Linux-based distributed applications. You will play a critical role in driving innovation, ensuring platform reliability, and fostering a high-performing development team.
What You Will Be Doing
- Provide strong leadership and guidance to team of talented full-stack and system engineers fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with product management and senior management teams in the USA to align strategies, set priorities, and drive product development efforts
- Play a key role in building a high-performance team, helping to recruit and mentor talented developers with varied technical backgrounds.
- Maintenance & Optimization: Oversee the daily maintenance of our existing software platform, ensuring system stability, security, and performance.
- Feature Enhancements: Develop and deploy incremental features that enhance platform functionality without disrupting the core system.
- Software Updates & Integration: Update, build, and integrate system software packages, ensuring compatibility and security.
- Play a key role in developing a transition strategy and roadmap to migrate existing technology stacks to new languages and tools.
- Best Practices & Mentorship: Implement coding standards and best practices while mentoring junior developers on maintaining legacy systems and integrating new technologies.
What We Need from You
- Excellent spoken and written English proficiency is required.
- 5 years of experience as a tech lead and hands-on manager, with a strong focus on distributed applications.
- Proven expertise and advanced knowledge of programming languages and environments such as Python, Go, Rust and others.
- Strong Linux system administration skills, including server management, security hardening, and performance tuning.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases including architecture, query optimization and performance tuning.
- Strong proficiency in Bash shell scripting for automation and system maintenance tasks.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or other tools, Makefiles and automated testing.
- A detail-oriented mindset with a proven track record in sustaining legacy systems while delivering targeted improvements.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working across multiple teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on optimizing and securing existing infrastructures.
- Experience with Agile development and leading Scrum teams.
It Would Be Nice if You Had
- Experience with PHP or front-end development with JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Experience in cybersecurity or network traffic analysis is highly desirable.
- Experience in NDR, network analytics or cybersecurity industry sectors.
- A forward-thinking mindset with enthusiasm for transitioning to a modern technology stack including React, Kafka, Go, Rust, Parquet, Iceberg, Postgres, and other NoSQL data stores.
