About the Role
OPSWAT is looking for a Software Engineering Leader to join our MetaDefender Network Detection and Response (NDR) team. You will play a critical role in maintaining and improving our current NDR platform while contributing to the design and development of our next-generation system. This position requires deep technical expertise in building scalable, Linux-based distributed applications and a passion for building secure, high-performance systems.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Enhancing Core Functionality: Develop and deploy new backend features for the existing NDR platform to improve detection capabilities, performance, and usability.
- System Maintenance & Optimization: Ensure platform stability, reliability, and performance by maintaining and optimizing current systems.
- Software Integration & Updates: Update and integrate various backend components, system packages, and third-party libraries with a focus on security and compatibility.
- Modernization Efforts: Participate in the migration of legacy systems to modern technologies and architectures, such as microservices and event-driven designs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, frontend developers, QA engineers, and DevOps to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.
- Code Quality & Best Practices: Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, and contribute to the adoption of coding standards and engineering best practices.
- Technical Mentorship: Share knowledge with team members, review code, and support technical decision-making.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience, including work on distributed systems and Linux-based applications.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages: Python, Go, Rust.
- Strong understanding of Linux system internals, networking, server management, and performance tuning.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases; confident with schema design, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Solid knowledge of shell scripting (Bash) and common system automation tasks.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or equivalent), Makefiles, and automated testing frameworks.
- Track record of maintaining and improving legacy systems in parallel with modern development efforts.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, including working in a Scrum team environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience with PHP or front-end technologies such as JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Background in cybersecurity, network traffic analysis, or NDR platforms.
- Experience with Kafka, React, Rust, Go, Postgres, and modern data formats like Parquet or Iceberg.
- Enthusiasm for evolving tech stacks and modern architecture patterns.
