The Position

At OPSWAT, we’re on a mission to protect the world’s most critical infrastructure. As a U.S.-based cybersecurity leader, we specialize in developing solutions for threat prevention and process creation for secure data transfer and safe device access. With our rapidly growing R&D presence in Hungary, we are expanding the team behind our MetaDefender Sandbox.

The MetaDefender Sandbox is an advanced malware analysis solution that detects and analyzes zero-day and evasive threats using a combination of dynamic analysis, AI, and machine learning. It helps customers across the globe, including governments, financial institutions, and critical infrastructure operators, identify malicious behavior that traditional antivirus engines often miss. We are looking for a driven and passionate Java Backend Engineer to join our international Sandbox team. You’ll collaborate with colleagues from Hungary, Vietnam, Spain, and Georgia, and contribute to building scalable, cloud-enabled, and on-premise threat detection solutions that make a real difference in the cybersecurity landscape.

What You Will be Doing

  • Working in close alignment with Engineering Manager and Product Owner: planning, designing, developing, and managing Java-based applications and software
  • Analyzing requirements, exploring system features, and defining functionality of applications
  • Proposing changes to the current Java codebase and following through with refactoring, changing and extending it
  • Performing code reviews, writing unit tests
  • Creating relevant documentation
  • Providing recommendations for continuous improvement
  • Providing mentorship for other members of the Engineering Team

What We Need from You

  • 3+ years experience in Java development
  • Solid programming and design skills in Java Core, Object Oriented Programming, design patterns, best practices
  • Experience with Spring framework: Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security
  • Experience with RESTful API and JSON data
  • Experience with Jira, CD/CI, Git, SonarQube
  • BSc or MSc in software engineering, Information Technology, Computer Sciences or Mathematics
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills
  • Willingness to deep dive into the codebase and have the motivation to reverse engineer
  • It’s an advantage if you can use static and dynamic methods to analyze malicious scripts and documents
  • It’s good to have experience with agile development methodologies
  • Experience with Linux systems, Docker, Microservices, Container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker swarm...) is nice to have
  • Visual Basic and JavaScript experience is welcomed
