Vice President, Engineering
Posit
At Posit, we are entering an exciting new chapter of innovation. Your mission is to lead the continued evolution of our core authoring suite, including Positron, the RStudio IDE, and Workbench, into an AI-native era. Not only do we need to innovate and reimagine what our products can be in this new world, but we also need to remake how software engineering works when AI assistance is woven into it.
You will act as a strategic guide, helping our high-performing teams navigate this fundamental shift while championing the psychological safety and open-source values that define Posit’s culture.
What you will own…
- AI Engineering: Guide the teams on how AI-centered features should be developed, tested, secured, deployed, scaled and maintained.
- Engineering with AI: Evolve our engineering practices, integrating AI assistance to drive new levels of efficiency, quality, collaboration and innovation.
- Execution, Agility and Pace: Partner with engineering leads and managers to optimize our development cycles for the rapid, iterative pace of the modern AI landscape.
- Enterprise Readiness: Maintain our commitment to enterprise-grade reliability, ensuring our tools remain easy to manage for IT leaders in complex, secure environments.
- Integrated Product Experience: Ensure our tools work seamlessly together as a unified ecosystem, providing a consistent and high-quality experience for users across different environments.
What you will assist with…
- Product Vision: Collaborate with product leadership and internal stakeholders to align our technical roadmaps with the long-term future of data science.
- Cross-functional Alignment: Work across the organization to turn ambitious goals into clear, actionable plans with shared ownership.
- Team Culture: Cultivate a thriving, growing, resilient and fully distributed engineering organization that learns and continuously innovates.
What you will bring…
- Pragmatic AI Vision: A grounded, expert view on how AI can fundamentally improve software effectiveness without losing sight of user needs.
- Development Tool Expertise: Deep experience with IDEs, extensions, or language runtimes. You can engage deeply with Principal Engineers on architectural trade-offs.
- The "Data Science" Perspective: A strong background in Analytics or Data Science. You understand the user's “why” as much as the “how”.
- Enterprise Groundedness: Experience building software for the unique constraints of Fortune 500 IT environments (auth, security, and compliance).
- Collaborative Change Management: A proven ability to lead organizations through periods of growth and technological shifts with empathy and clarity.
What you will learn…
- Posit’s Cultural DNA: Learning how we balance our deep open-source mission with our commercial growth.
- Deployment Complexity: Mastering the nuances of supporting users across On-Prem, cloud-embedded, and SaaS environments.
- The Frontier of Data Science: A front-row seat to the paradigm shifts occurring in data science and scientific computing as AI fundamentally reshapes the landscape.
